Hobart North Uniting Church

We meet and worship on the lands of the Mouheneener peoples and seek to walk together.

9.30am Worship each Sunday is held in the Worship Centre and Live-Streamed each week.  Click picture below for live-stream and recorded links from each week. We extend an open invitation to share in worshipping God with the gathered community each Sunday.

6.00pm Worship most Sunday evenings small informal.  Around a dozen people predominately young adults and teenagers. If you are not a regular attender and you wish to come to the Sunday night worship,  please call/text Jeff on 0429 728 243 to confirm the service is still scheduled that evening.

As Community we welcome input, questions and discussion throughout the gathered time each week.  We encourage respect for the thoughts, opinions and questions of others.  In learning to discuss our experiences and understandings of God, we become more able to share our faith in words and action.

The Uniting Church is committed to ensuring the safety of all people.

Address is  2 Swan St North Hobart – click the map image below to expand it and open it in a new tab.  If coming from the CBD we are a 1.6km, 20 minute walk straight up Elizabeth St from the Mall in the city.  The Church is beside Born in Brunswick and our Park, and immediately before the North Hobart Post Office, and directly across the road from the State Cinemas, cafe and bookshop.  If coming from the Northern Suburbs of the same side of the river, come from Glenorchy along Main Road, come past the church and do a U-turn at the round about and turn in Swan St.  Parking can be limited and while some find parking in Swan St (a no through road), others will park in Newdegate, Federal, Elphinstone, Strahan or Lefroy Street.   There is a bus service from the North that stops across the road from the church (Stop 7 Elizabeth/Strahan St).  If coming up from the CBD the bus stop to disembark is a 180 meter, 2 minute walk from the church  (Stop 7 Elizabeth/Pitt St).

Church NewsletterConnecting Community is our newsletter which is emailed each week.  If you wish to be added to the email group to receive Connecting Community, please send an email with your request to office@hobartnorth.ucatas.org   Our email group ensures that your email address is not distributed to others, and your inbox won’t be filled by someone ‘replying to all’.

We are trialling a QR code at the Worship Services with an access code for visitors and regular attenders to view Connecting Community on their phone or device.

Weddings:  Both the Hobart North Uniting Church congregation and the pastor (Jeff Savage) embrace inclusivity and gender diversity

Where a couple have:

  • decided to make a life long commitment to each other and God in giving of themselves in marriage,
  • and where that relationship is valuing of each other and not abusive,
  • I am happy to meet with the couple and discuss and plan for either a service
    • of marriage, or if the couple prefer
    • a service of commitment to one anther.

Separations: Some separations are amicable and life-giving, some are painful and soul destroying –  bringing much trauma. Some separations are brought about by the death of a partner and even when  death is expected it can rock your world.  If one or both parties would like to have a short service of recognition of being single again, or a liturgy to acknowledge before God and themself/themselves a new beginning, please make contact.  For some this may be an opportunity to recommit yourself to God, or an act of release from guilt, baggage, or past ways. If you wish to explore these ideas, and step beyond …or build on what has been, please make contact with Jeff Savage jeff@hobartnorth.ucatas.org

Baptims / Confirmations:  While we don’t believe someone goes to hell (if such a place exists) if they are not baptised, we still hold Baptism as an important sacrament in the life of the Christian church.  If you are wishing to consider ‘Baptism’ for yourself or your children, or the reaffirmation of the baptismal promises, which is called ‘Confirmation’ please make contact. Many parents bring their children for Baptism and others leave the decision for their children to make as they grow and mature.  The Uniting Church embraces both infant Baptism and believer Baptism.   Confirmation is both a reaffirmation of your Baptism, and the promises made by you or on your behalf at that time, and a personal confession of faith and commitment to God and the Christian community.   To explore further please make an appoint to speak with Jeff Savage jeff@hobartnorth.ucatas.org

Facility Bookings:  Our congregation have been gifted with wonderful resources of people and buildings and we inherit a great legacy of faith and inspiration.  The property assets we have are mainly due to the commitment of members of what was originally Swan St Methodist Church, and the passing on of resources by equally committed members of other local congregations which have closed (Cross St New Town, Lenah Valley, Moonah and other Uniting Church worship centres).   Many have been through the pain of closing and selling properties which they had worshipped in, yet have found new life in those resources being released and combined with the resources of others to give us what we have today.  A substantial and extensive redevelopment of 2 Swan St took place around 2013/2014 and we hold these buildings not only for worship, but also make them available to the community to rent, use and enjoy.  If you are interested in discussing hiring our facilities (Upstairs carpeted hall / Downstairs timber floor hall / Gathering Space / Worship Space / Chapel / Meeting Rooms / Office Space) please email bookings@hobartnorth.ucatas.org   or phone the bookings phone number 0480 343 793
