About Us

Welcome to the Hobart North Uniting Church Website. Our Congregation is friendly and welcoming of those from all walks of life. We extend an open invitation to share in worshiping God with the gathered community. Worship is held each Sunday at 9.30am in our Worship Centre at Hobart North Uniting Church. It is also live streamed each week for those who are unable to attend in person.

As a community we welcome input, questions and discussion throughout the gathered time each week.  We encourage respect for the thoughts, opinions and questions of others.  In learning to discuss our experiences and understandings of God, we become more able to share our faith in words and action.

The Uniting Church in Australia was formed in 1977 through the union of the Congregational Union, Methodist Church, and Presbyterian Church.

The Hobart North Uniting Church as it exists today was formed by the merger of the Swan Street congregation with the New Town/Moonah congregations in 2006. Our building is (partially) over 100 years old. A redevelopment was completed in the early 2010s giving us a more modern space to gather together, mixed with traditional buildings.

We are able to assist with the following stages of life:

Weddings:  Both the Hobart North Uniting Church congregation and the pastor embrace inclusivity and gender diversity.

Where a couple have:

  • decided to make a life long commitment to each other and God in giving of themselves in marriage,
  • and where that relationship is valuing of each other and not abusive,
  • I am happy to meet with the couple and discuss and plan for either a service
    • of marriage, or if the couple prefer
    • a service of commitment to one anther.

Separations: Some separations are amicable and life-giving, some are painful and soul destroying –  bringing much trauma. Some separations are brought about by the death of a partner and even when  death is expected it can rock your world.  If one or both parties would like to have a short service of recognition of being single again, or a liturgy to acknowledge before God and themself/themselves a new beginning, please make contact.  For some this may be an opportunity to recommit yourself to God, or an act of release from guilt, baggage, or past ways. If you wish to explore these ideas, and step beyond …or build on what has been, please make contact with the Church Office: office@hobartnorth.ucatas.org

Baptims / Confirmations:  While we don’t believe someone goes to hell (if such a place exists) if they are not baptised, we still hold Baptism as an important sacrament in the life of the Christian church.  If you are wishing to consider ‘Baptism’ for yourself or your children, or the reaffirmation of the baptismal promises, which is called ‘Confirmation’ please make contact. Many parents bring their children for Baptism and others leave the decision for their children to make as they grow and mature.  The Uniting Church embraces both infant Baptism and believer Baptism.  Confirmation is both a reaffirmation of your Baptism, and the promises made by you or on your behalf at that time, and a personal confession of faith and commitment to God and the Christian community.   To explore further please make an appoint to speak with our Minister.
